Get the IP address of a workstation

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network. While not unique to each system, an IP address can provide a reliable means to address a specific workstation or server on the university network.

  1. Open Windows Settings by going to Start → Settings or typing settings into the Start Menu

  2. In the Windows Settings window, click Network & Internet

  3. In the Network & Internet pane, under Status, click View your network properties

  4. Your IP Address will be shown under IPv4 Address in the Properties window

  1. Click on the System Preferences icon on the macOS Dock

  2. In the System Preferences window, click Network

  3. Your IP Address will be shown under the connection status.

  1. Click on the Settings icon on the Ubuntu Dock

  2. In the System Settings window, click Network

  3. In the Network window, select the connected network device

  4. Your IP Address will be shown beside the entry marked IPv4 Address
