Connect to On-Campus Computer using Remote Desktop Services
The university Virtual Private Network (VPN) is required in order to connect to an on-campus workstation. Additionally, you must also have the computer name and/or IP address of the workstation you would like to connect to.
How to Get your IP address
You must know your IP address or hostname prior to attempting to connect to your on-campus system remotely.
- Open Windows Settings by going to Start → Settings or typing
settings
into the Start Menu
How to Connect to the VPN
You must install and configure the Cisco VPN client prior to attempting to connect to your on-campus system.
- Make sure your off-campus computer is connected to the internet
- Start the Cisco VPN client by going to Start → Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client or typing
anyconnect
into the Start Menu
- In the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client window…
- Type
secureaccess.gsu.edu
in the field
- The client will attempt to connect and ask for your credentials
- Under Username, type your GSU Username
- Under Password, type your GSU Password
- Under DUO authentication method, type
push
(all lowercase)
- The window will wait until you successfully authorize using your DUO authenticator.
- You are now connected
How to use Remote Desktop Connection
- In the Remote Desktop Connection window…
- Under Computer, type the IP address or hostname of the on-campus workstation.
Example:10.50.123.45
Example:ascsc-25-700-1.dmd.gsuad.gsu.edu
- You will be asked to login to the on-campus workstation.
- Under Username, type your GSU Username
- Under Password, type your GSU Password
- You are now connected to the on-campus workstation. To disconnect, click the X on the blue strip at the top.
